Summertime Stories

The sun is out, the garden is flourishing, and the daylight hours are lengthy and generous. Summertime brings a wealth of memories, back from the days where school differentiated summer from all the other seasons. What are you summertime stories?

I don’t remember summer reading programs when I was growing up, but I do remember summertime stories. The luxury of spending days in fictional worlds, no cries of “Is your homework finished?” to interrupt the flow. Only dinner. “Coming, Mom! Just a minute!” “Yeah Mom, I just have to find a good stopping place!” “Okay, okay! I’m coming!”

When I serve dinner now, it irritates me no end when I have to chase others to the table—my poor mother!

The other rich summertime memory I treasure is Summer Theater. There’s no place in the world as full of potential as a black box theater, just waiting to be filled with color and light, characters and lines, songs, dances, and stories.

I’m grateful to have had so many kinds of summertime stories throughout my life.

How about you? What are your summertime stories?

P.S. Mark your calendars for author appearance July 24th: North Olympic Library System has created a “Clallam County Comic Con” Event. I’m appearing on a “Creating Creature Worlds” panel with authors Lish McBride and Lisa Mantchev. Takes place at 3pm at the Port Angeles Main Branch Library.
