A big welcome to those of you new to my newsletter! Read on for a message about the power of illustrations…

In these weekly notes, I keep you apprised of author appearances and events, and I send lots of book recommendations your way for your reading pleasure. I don’t write nearly as fast as you read, and we readers need a constant flow of good material—so I share what’s on my reading table with you.

And now for the power of illustrations.

Here I am at the Jamestown Fair

This past Saturday I joined perhaps 40 other creatives locally at the Jamestown S’Klallam Native and Non-Native Arts and Crafts Fair. It took place in the Red Cedar Hall, the tribal community center.

I had never been inside, and let me tell you, the venue is amazing. Enormous log beams grace the ceiling, it boasts a wrap-around window-lined porch with water view, natural light spills in, and soft native flute music was our audio background. Yummy!

Others liked it too—both the venue and the wares—it was very well attended. I’m happy to say I sold a lot of books! It delights me to think of new readers on the receiving end of those gifts… may you love Piper Pan and Her Merry Band!

What helps me most to summon quick interest in my books, is using the power of illustrations. I can quickly introduce the concept of my story by pointing to my character cards—created from the wonderful illustrations by Aisha Zaleha Latip, and elegantly designed by Marjorie Schoelles, author and illustrator of Once Upon a Pearl. The visuals bring the story to life with great effect. I’ve had people ask if I’ve sold the movie rights yet!

I’ll be at the Gardiner Fair this weekend—prepared to take orders as necessary, as my supply is running low and more won’t arrive until the 21st.

Days are darker now… a good time for extra reading, in my world! Stay warm and cozy…

Happy Reading!
